Wannabee Club Scholarships
One of the primary missions of the Wannabee Hobby Beekeepers Club is to promote beekeeping to the Black Hills youth, and adult educators who have programs to introduce the youth to beekeeping. The Club funds up to three, yearly scholarships, primarily for the purchase of bees, to help fund the apiary of aspiring beekeepers. The Club periodically receives donations of bee equipment, and may decide to distribute items to applicants or past scholarship winners, depending on experience, and need. with at least one Board member. • The Secretary of the Club, will solicit scholarship applications through the Club members, local youth clubs and via social media. • Applications will be due by the third week of February, and may be mailed to: ◦ Resa Combs ◦ 8040 Bighorn Rd ◦ Rapid City, SD 57702 • The Scholarship Committee will review the applications and announce the scholarship recipients, during the March meeting. • Scholarship recipients will be ineligible for another scholarship, for two years, immediately after the year the scholarship was awarded. • Members of the Scholarship Committee will be available, for assistance/consultation to scholarship recipients, throughout the year. 2025 Scholarship Committee Members: Dan Mulally - baldbaby2000@msn.com Resa Combs - rrcombs@gmail.com Jerry Owens - adrbees@gmail.com Joan Clements - jrbeagle03@me.com Wannabee Applicant Responsibilities • Applicants must complete a Scholarship Application Form (below). • Applications will be due by the third week of February, and may be mailed to: Resa Combs, 717 South St., Rapid City, SD 57701. • Scholarship recipients must attend at least three meetings, per year, preferably between June and October. • It is recommended that the scholarship recipient keep a written journal of their experiences, including observations during hive inspections. These journals will be helpful, in discussing questions or issues, with mentors or other beekeepers. • Scholarship recipients will give informal updates, on their apiary, during Club meetings. In addition, they will give a year-end presentation, on their experiences. • If the scholarship recipient chooses to not keep bees, after their first year, returning the equipment to the Club, would be appreciated. • Scholarship recipients will be ineligible for another scholarship, for two years, immediately after the year the scholarship was awarded. • Members of the Scholarship Committee will be available, for assistance/consultation to scholarship recipients, throughout the year.
