Outreach We are always interested in spreading information about the importance of honey bees and promoting their well-being. Pollinators play a critical role in the fertilization of plants, making seeds, fruits, and maintaining healthy agriculture. South Dakota is a leader in domestic honey production and has more than 387,000 colonies managed by beekeepers, most of which are shipped out of state for commercial pollination activities each year.
